My favorite professor at SJSU, Sandra Frank, did a demonstration in our illustrative photography class of a technique called "painting with light." She used a very concentrated, very powerful, very expensive piece of equipment for this - a fiber optic lighting mechanism. It was very precise lighting tool that made for some really interesting pictures. I opted for a $10 flashlight. I won't be able to get the precise lighting Sandi gets with her piece of equipment, but I can mimic the style until I figure out what works best for me. I had a ton of my friends help me with this, and the model was great. So a special thank you to Jody, JC, Morgan, Daniel, and Kate.
These two shots were approximately 2 minutes each. I used strobes to illuminate the background. Nothing was done in photoshop - everything was done in camera.
